Curl Curl North Public School's Student Welfare Policies support student wellbeing across the school so that the academic and social needs of students are met through teaching and learning programs that support each student. These policies are the basis on which the happiness and success of students at school relies.
There are a number policies that are relevant to student wellbeing. They include:
Our school rules only need common sense and care to ensure that the school is a safe and harmonious learning environment for everyone.
The house system fosters trust, confidence and a team spirit among students, their house leaders and teachers. It applies in the sporting context as well as in and out of classrooms. A competition is run throughout the year and a progress report is given each week in assembly.
Curl Curl North is unique in that all year 6 students are prefects. This allows every student in their final year of primary school the opportunity to develop both personally and socially in areas such as leadership, responsibility and nurturing.
The students are rostered to assume various responsibilities and roles including the running and organising of the Year 3-6 Assembly each week, the collection and administration of the points system for the House, Class and Uniform Competitions and other duties that contribute to the smooth running of the school.
School Captains and Vice-captains are elected each year by the students and staff.
Year 6 and Kindergarten students are teamed up as buddies or partners from the beginning of each year. Year 6 students assist with the orientation and induction of the Kindy boys and girls and are involved in ongoing activities such as the Easter Hat Parade and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic as well as assisting in classrooms when time is available.
The staff at Curl Curl North believe that collegial support and collective problem solving are essential elements of a successful discipline policy. There are consequences for unacceptable behaviour and discipline is corrective intending to stop misbehaviour.
A system of sanctions is in place for students who show serious or persistent behaviour problems. These behaviours may result in a “Yellow Card” being issued and a lunchtime detention supervised by a member of the executive staff. It should be noted that very few students at Curl Curl North are issued with a yellow card.
This forms a key part of the school’s Discipline Policy. Teachers, students and parents need to share the same understanding of what bullying means and how to deal with it. There are many negative social situations that are not bullying.
Strategies to prevent and deal with bullying can be found in the policy. Go to the link below to view our Discipline Policy.
