Dance
The school is very proud of the varied opportunities we offer in the area of dance.
Kindergarten to year 2 students participate in a dance program throughout the year.
Year 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to audition for a place in our Sydney North Dance Festival group. This selected group of 24 then practises throughout Terms 1 and 2, before performing at the Sydney North Dance Festival. We have participated in this festival for many years. For the first time in 2009 a Year 1 group is performing in the festival.
The year 5 and 6 group auditions via video for the Schools Spectacular held at the Entertainment Centre in November of each year. If successful (and we have only missed twice in the last 10 years) 12 -16 children are selected for this amazing opportunity to perform before thousands of people with a cast of 3000 students.
As part of our Gifted and Talented program, a small number of Year 6 dancers are chosen to attend the Sydney North Talented Dance Camp which runs for a week at the Sydney Dance Company in the city.
Drama
Drama is an integral part of class programs at Curl Curl North. Our link with the University of Sydney has provided teachers with the opportunity to engage in Professional Learning which focuses on using the Creative Arts, particularly Drama to improve student literacy.
Every second year all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are involved in a Performing Arts Concert which highlights acting, singing and dancing.
In addition groups perform in the annual ArtsNorth Drama Festival which is held at Nida. In 2009 a group from Year 2 and a Year 3/ 4 group are performing.
