Gifted and Talented Education at Curl Curl North

At Curl Curl North we are committed to identifying gifted and talented students and ensuring that they are given appropriate opportunity, stimulation and experiences to develop their potential.

Programs and opportunities:

Comprehensive identification processes in the early years mean that we cluster like- minded students together and engage them in creative and stimulating learning activities. Teachers at Curl Curl North are regularly engaged in professional learning which is designed to assist us in the provision of quality learning environments for all students including gifted and talented students. School based teacher education at Curl Curl North ensures innovative approaches and deep learning of teachers and students.

We are at the cutting edge of technology at Curl Curl North and project based programs such as Design Make and Innovate, Murder Under the Microscope and Project Penguin challenge all students but particularly gifted students. Our school library offers research sessions in which students are welcome to participate in class and small groups. Enrichment days which are facilitated by our own teachers for students across the region are another way we participate in opportunities for gifted and talented students.

In addition to classroom programs enrichment activities such as Chess, Music, Debating and Public Speaking are enjoyable and worthwhile for students. Our Band program is thriving and gaining recognition, Choir numbers are soaring and we are fortunate to have an outstanding classroom based Music program. Talented sports students are catered for extensively as is evident by our carnivals and weekly programs.

To encourage high achievement, originality, problem-solving, higher-order thinking skills and creativity, teachers consider the individual needs of the gifted and talented students in their classes. Teachers assess students’ knowledge and skills to provide challenges and learning options appropriate for their development.
